Rugby Is Forever

It’s rugby time!

Yes, it’s time for that competition that comes round every four years – the rugby world cup!

I’m a massive fan of rugby players as heroes – they’ve got the right balance of alpha male and pure physicality (for physicality read strong, muscled and with the broadest shoulders you ever had the good fortune to swoon over).

I’m really hoping that #RWC2015 will inspire a whole glut of rugby heroes in romance.

Back in 2009 Harlequin / Mills & Boon joined up with the Rugby Football union, to produce an eight-book mini-series all featuring heroes who were involved in the rugby world.

International Billionaires

The series included:

They were unapologetically glamorous, with the most alpha of alpha heroes and the English rugby team’s rose emblazoned on the front.

But let’s not stop there.  Here are five of my favourite rugby romance novels, and I’d love to hear about your rugby recs in the comments!

Too Much of a Good Thing? – Joss Wood

It’s time for Lu Sheppard to get back in the game—fact. After ten years of playing mom to her younger brothers the boys have left home and she’s determined to make up for lost time! Item number one on her list? A man to have some fun with!

Rugby coach Will Scott is just what Lu needs to ease herself back into the dating game. Only in town temporarily, king of the fling…he’s perfect. But his kisses are so electric that remembering they have an expiry date is getting harder. Suddenly Lu starts wondering…maybe it is possible to have too much of a good thing!

Hitting on the Hooker – Mina Carter

Hacked off after being stood up, Fern Morgan doesn’t much fancy hanging around when local Rugby team, the Strathstow Sharks crash the bar, so makes rapid plans to leave.

One look at the cute brunette trying to make a break for it and Sharks player, Tom Sexton, has plans all of his own. Plans that involve getting her out of the bar and into his bed…

The Last Doctor She Should Ever Date – Louisa George

A mistake waiting to happen? It’s been four years since infamous party girl delectable Daniella Danatello brought her powerful family the wrong sort of publicity! Dani’s desperate to get back in their good books, and accepts a job as physiotherapist on her father’s rugby team.

There’s just one thing – one man – standing in the way of earning back her selfrespect: the team doctor, Zac Price. With killer abs and infuriatingly sexy arrogance, Zac is one massive distraction – and now she’s his colleague any involvement with him would break all the rules. Dani’s determined to keep away…but Zac’s just too tempting to ignore…

Chasing Serenity – Eden Butler

Graduate student Autumn McShane has had her share of heartbreak. She’s been abandoned and betrayed and she lost her beloved mother in a tragic car accident five months ago. That loss damaged her body and fractured her spirit but she’s learning to recover, until her ex-boyfriend returns to town, intent on making her life miserable.

Declan Fraser hates her ex as much as Autumn does, but the last thing she needs is to put her trust in the hands of another man, especially one like Declan: his hard body and lulling Irish accent makes more than a few girls weak-kneed. The talented rugby player is rude and sarcastic, with tattooed, muscular arms and a cocky attitude, but he’s the only one who can help Autumn win an ill-advised bet that, if lost, could cost her more than she’s willing to pay. The reluctant alliance between Declan and Autumn stirs up cravings she doesn’t want to admit, but Declan is a hard man to resist.

Just when Autumn starts letting down her carefully constructed walls to the sexy bad boy, he betrays her when she needs him most. Autumn suspects Declan has secrets, and she is determined to uncover what drove him away from her, even if that means fraternizing with the enemy. But will the truth return Declan to her arms or add to the scars on her heart?

Knowing the ScoreKat Latham

Rugby player Spencer Bailey is determined to win a spot on England’s World Cup team. But with a month break before the selectors start watching him, he’s eager to have fun with a woman who knows the score: the relationship will end when rugby season begins. Caitlyn works for an international disaster relief organization and can handle the world’s worst crises, but she flinches from her own. Her past has left her with a fear of intimacy so deep that she has trouble getting close to anyone—until she meets sexy Spencer. His hot body and easygoing nature are too much for even her to resist.

Neither Caitlyn nor Spencer expects to fall hard for each other. But with their relationship deadline approaching, the old rules of the game seem less important than before…until past secrets surface, challenging everything they thought they knew about each other.
